When you’re extra short on time, you might feel like you don’t have time for a workout, even if you really want to get one in.
And let me tell ya, I get it!
I’m a busy mom of 3 active boys, a business owner, trainer, and wife. I’ve got a lot on my plate.
But I also know the importance of making time for my workouts, even if they are short.
Making time for a quick workout will help you stay on track with your goals, raise your energy, and will put you in a better mood.
Plus, short workouts are actually super effective!
Getting a workout in will also boost your metabolism. Not only do you burn calories during a workout, you’ll burn additional calories after!
Depending on the type and intensity of a workout, you could be burning calories for hours after a workout thanks to a cool thing called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, or EPOC for short.
EPOC-Mega Calorie Burning Exercises
For those of you who want to know a cool piece of exercise science, I’ll quickly explain EPOC.
Your body is very smart. Its primary goal is to keep you in a normal state called homeostasis.
Homeostasis is when the body is in equilibrium and all is calm and well.
Exercise disturbs this equilibrium, quite a bit. So after a workout, your body works to get everything back to a normal resting state.
The good news? It has to burn calories to do this.
The harder a workout you do, the more calories your body burns after to return to homeostasis. Pretty cool, right?
