As a personal trainer for over 10 years, I’ve heard this question a lot. While there are some medical reasons for a lack of energy, there are some really simple things you can do to boost your energy levels while getting healthy!
I don’t like fad diets or quick fixes, so these tips will be sustainable! Adding in these tips to boost your energy will help you get healthy and feel great.
1. Eat Whole Foods
Some of the foods you are eating could be draining your energy. Crazy, right?
Lots of people don’t get enough protein into their diet. If you don’t eat enough protein, you won’t feel as satisfied and full after your meal. When your diet consists of simple carbs (carbs that digest quickly, usually found in processed foods) you will experience a quick burst of energy followed by a serious drop in energy.
Choosing foods that your body can use as long-term fuel will boost your energy (and your mood). Fill your diet with quality proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats.
Instead of reaching for a bagel for breakfast, choose oatmeal with fruit for a more filling meal. Swap out a sandwich covered in mayo and cheese for a salad with steak! And at dinner time, choose baked fish over fried fast-foods.
2. Drink More Water
Your body needs to be hydrated for you to feel good!
You might be someone who likes drinking caffeinated soda–all day long. Sure, that will give you energy, but it won’t hydrate your body or give you the kind of energy that your body needs to be healthy and strong.
Try adding more water to your day. Fill up a water bottle multiple times–try and drink at least half a gallon, but aim for more! I suggest drinking half your weight in ounces of water every day.

3. Move yo’ Body!
Most people don’t have very active jobs, which means you’re probably sitting at a desk for a lot of your day. Then you might go home, sit down for dinner, and plop down in front of the TV for a few hours before bed.
Basically, your whole day might consist of sitting, but you still feel tired! Adding in even a little bit of exercise to your day will help you feel more energetic.
Mentally, your body wants to move. Our daily lives are full of stress, but sometimes there is nowhere for that stress to go! By exercising a little bit each day, you will feel more energized.
Exercise causes your body to release endorphins, which will help you physically have more energy. Those endorphins will also give you more mental stamina to conquer those long work days.
