Spring has finally sprung and if you’re suffering from cabin fever spring cleaning is the cure! A clean and tidy home leaves you feeling peaceful and energized, ready to take on the world and be productive! Spring cleaning can give you the boost you need to achieve your goals.
Japanese professional organizer, Marie Kondo, said in her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, “A dramatic reorganization of the home causes correspondingly dramatic changes in lifestyle and perspective. It is life transforming.” Many of Marie’s clients have reached long time goals after getting tidy including losing weight and getting fit.
Why would that be? Here are three possible reasons:
1. Having a clean space will help you feel better about yourself and in control of your choices.
2. Not being weighed down by stuff in your physical environment will make you feel lighter.
3. Being organized and keeping a clean house can put you in a healthy mindset. Healthy living transfers to healthy choices in other areas.
So let’s get tidying and catch the spring weight loss fever!
Ditch the Junk
In order to live a more peaceful and life you need to get rid of all the stuff that is holding you back. Open every drawer, box and closet and leave no stone unturned (figuratively speaking).
Create two piles, a keep pile and a donate pile. Marie Kondo says if you it gives you joy keep it, if not throw it in the donation pile. The point is to get rid of the stuff that doesn’t make you happy.
It is shocking how much stuff we naturally accumulate, trust me you will feel a weight lifted from your shoulders once you get rid of all the junk that’s holding you down. When you aren’t being stressed out by all the extra stuff you can focus in on what really matters to you and what you really want to accomplish.
Give Everything a Home
Determining where to store certain things all depends on you and your home. It’s better to store things in a place that makes them easy to put away.
I recently reorganized my kitchen because no matter what I did it always seemed to be a mess. My counters were always covered with ingredients I had left out. During my redesign I knew I wanted to make it as effortless as possible to put these items away in order to make cooking healthy flavorful meals less of a hassle.
If everything has a home you won’t be able to use the I-can’t-go-running-because-I-don’t-know-where-my-shoes-are excuse ever again! The effort of trying to gather all the necessary materials is removed allowing you to get down to business.
Wash and Dust
Getting rid of all that winter dirt and grime is just what spring cleaning is all about. In addition, you’ll feel better! Try using products that trap dust and dirt instead of stirring them up or throwing them in the air.
Once you get rid of all that dust you’ll breathe easier without all those bothersome allergens hanging around. If you’re feeling sick or sluggish due to indoor allergies you won’t feel energized. Creating a clean healthy environment is what spring cleaning is all about.
Once your home is tidy and clutter free throw open the windows and enjoy the fresh air, sunshine and energy that an organized home can give you. Spring is a time of rebirth use it to re-commit to your goals and find the will-power you need to reach your ideal shape!
Have you ever felt that surge of energy and resolve that a tidy home can give you? What have you been able to accomplish?
