Making the Most Out of the Hour Before Bed

Getting the Most Out of Sleep I didn’t need Mayo Clinic to tell me I was sleep deprived. The crankiness, forgetfulness, public napping and new obsession with Clear Eyes were all the signs I needed. It’s been a long two months. Thankfully, the grisly work project that was keeping me up is over and I’m ready to sleep. Specifically, I’m ready to start claiming the same deep, rapturous Zzzz’s that I’ve been watching my cat Penelope enjoy. The Sleep in America poll for 2011 revealed that 43% of Americans rarely or never get a good night’s sleep on weeknights. 60% say they experience a sleep problem every night or almost every night (i.e., snoring, waking in the night, waking up too early, or feeling un-refreshed when … Continue reading

Achieving “Deep Sleep For Effective Weight Loss”

Could you use a little help from your Zzzzs? Our newest audio hypnosis program is designed to help people reap the powerful health benefits of sleep. It’s no secret that sleep quality and weight control are closely related. But how many people know the secret to getting a good night’s rest? As far as we can tell, not many. Poor sleep quality chips away at strength, energy and appearance. It prevents the body from effectively managing weight, hunger and cravings. And it continues on and on, because sleep habits are usually the last place people think to look when they’re frustrated with their health and fitness levels. Our new program, “Deep Sleep for Effective Weight Loss,” follows the 28-day format … Continue reading

10 Ways to De-Stress To Shed Pounds

Stress eating is one of the most popular sources of weight gain in today's society. We’ve talked in previous posts about what happens when we get stressed.  We release Cortisol to “fight or flight”.  Since we don’t usually have to  fight someone or take off on a fast run. All that Cortisol in our system isn’t good. The funny thing is in the short-term stress can boost cardiovascular performance.  If it’s not too severe it the brain will actually perform better. You’ll be able to solve problems more effectively  and you’re likely to retain information better.  On the flip side though is if the stress is too severe or too prolonged it can actually harm learning.  If you’re stressed out … Continue reading

Eating Less Frequently Isn’t the Same As Eating Less

In my private, hypnotherapy practice I've begun noticing a trend with a lot of my overweight patients, and it's one that I feel needs to be addressed. One of the first things I find out during the evaluation process is that clients have a number of unhealthy eating/sleeping patterns. Around 3 out of every 4 of my clients tell me that they only eat once or twice per day. They think that by cutting down the number of times they eat each day, they will begin to lose weight more quickly, when actually the opposite is true. When you eat less frequently, your body adjusts to hold onto any excess rather than metabolizing everything you eat. If you want to … Continue reading

Analogy of Hypnotherapy for weight loss – Training the Brain

We've probably all had a friend who called us for advice about how to lose weight or change a specific negative pattern of behavior. At the time, the friend seemed to enthusiastically listen and agree with your advice. Yet, we later learn that our words of wisdom went in one ear and right out the other. This scenario is actually very similar to applying hypnotherapy to weight loss and understanding how it works. When we are awake, in a conscious state, our thinking, rationalizing, and over-analyzing may often be very well intentioned. Yet, we are still unable to make a positive change, kick a nasty habit, or truly heed words of wisdom for sustainable weight loss. The conscious mind is like a … Continue reading

Roadmap for Adopting New Weight Loss Beliefs

Before starting any new weight loss plan it is essential to create a roadmap. The roadmap helps us stay on track and helps us recognize when we get off track. The roadmap lets us know how far we are along the way for a successful weight loss plan. We have to know how we get from here to there. What are the typical roadblocks for any weight loss program (idealshape calls it body shaping). First and foremost are our beliefs about our body shape, what we eat, how we exercise, and the negative thoughts rolling around in our subconscious mind? Most of us have traveled this road before and we have experienced detours (holidays), road construction (sabotage), and other unexpected … Continue reading

Brain Appétit!

In my undaunted trek through all the things healthy I found another little gem that I would like to pass on. This weekend I watched a fascinating series by Dr. Daniel Amen on how to change your brain. For those of you that have looked into IdealShape, you know that we put a lot importance on the brains thought process behind a healthy lifestyle, and it’s always great to see another piece of proof behind our practices. In the series he talked of the 3 major parts of our brain and about the choices that we can make to change each of them. Surprise, surprise, he put a lot of focus on proper diet and exercise. Avocado’s, blueberries, broccoli, (decaffeinated) … Continue reading

The Birth of the IdealShape Successful Weight Loss Program

Hi, I am David Meine the creator of the Ideal Shape Audio Brain Food CD series. My personal health and fitness have always been very important to me. 26 years ago I was give a cassette tape that allowed me to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. I didn’t realize until 18 years later the power of that experience. That realization came while talking to my Foster Dad Tom Nightingale. One evening while watching the sun set on his back porch, he told Carla and me that he had lost and gained over a thousand pounds over his lifetime. While he was telling me this, in my mind I said “OH MY GOSH” could the secret that I learned 18 … Continue reading

The Myths About Traditional Weight Loss and Diet Programs Part 1

Since I was a wrestler in High School I have almost always been on a diet. I remember those days of trying to get my 5’11” frame down to 145 pounds. I would wear a plastic sweat suit, only eat hard boiled eggs, and spit a whole lot. I practically did anything that would get my weight to 145 pounds for weight ins on Friday night before my wrestling match. During my senior year our team was half way through the wrestling season and some bizarre events transpired. Before the Christmas break I had beat the previous year’s state champ. I went into the two week Christmas vacation believing I would be the state wrestling champion at 145 pounds. I … Continue reading
