Make The “Most” Out Of Breakfast

clockbreakfast Myth or reality: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Myth or reality: Breakfast jump starts your metabolism for the rest of the day? Well, according to this study released by Virginia Commonwealth University, breakfast is the most important meal of the day for weight loss. In fact, they showed that those who consumed a larger breakfast (half their daily intake of calories) lost 5 times as much weight as those who skipped it entirely.  That’s a lot of extra pound loss! Onto the second myth or reality question. There are actually a few new studies out there that show the claim that breakfast jump-starts your metabolism, might be a little off-base. So, then why do people lose … Continue reading

What’s in your meal replacement shake?

There's a lot of variety out there when it comes to meal replacement shakes and we're not just talking about the brands themselves. Everyone is trying to mark up the ingredients they use in a way that gets you excited to buy. But sometimes we get mixed signals... "Scientifically Formulated" are words we've come to recognize on every single shake out there because the alternative that jumps to mind (some random person mixing crushed vitamin A tablets with Ovaltine mix) just doesn't happen. Every shake out there is going to be formulated by scientists, but what about less obvious claims? There's a lot of funny trademarks when it comes to "huger-blockers" that are currently out on the market. Products touting … Continue reading

How do you keep the weight off after HCG?

So, you’ve been successful losing weight on HCG, but you keep hearing about troubles maintaining the lost weight from others on the program. So…how do you keep the weight off? Over the past year, I have had a large number of friends, associates, and clients who have lost weight on the HCG diet. Unfortunately for most, they gained all or most of the weight back. Many of them even added a few additional pounds. On top of this, studies have shown that individuals that try to do the HCG diet a second and third time are not getting even close to the same results as the first. It’s a discouraging reality. I heard one lady say that if she could … Continue reading

Apples and Temptation? I Think I’ve Heard This Story Before…

I’ve been thinking a lot about temptations seeing as I taught a class on it yesterday. For my object lesson I made what appeared to be a caramel apple.  I asked the class what they thought it was, and of course they all said a caramel apple.  A couple of the more intuitive students doubted it and asked if it was Styrofoam (I did that with the fake cake once) to which I responded, “No, it’s not Styrofoam.”  Then I asked who wants to come up and taste the apple and describe it to the class.  One brave young man came up. I handed it to him and gave him the option to just bite into it or, if … Continue reading

Just Weighting Around for the Holidays to End

So, I was very excited today to find that I have been successful with my goal of not gaining a single pound this holiday season! My typical weight gain during this time of year (from Thanksgiving to Christmas) is about 7-10 pounds. This means that I’m right in line with the average American, and I’ve been gaining this inhaled holiday heft for over 30 years. When New Years rolls around, I once again have to make my resolution to work for months just to get rid of it. This year it was time for a change. I was determined to still enjoy the holidays, but I wasn’t going to overeat and put on any pounds. I had two Thanksgiving dinners … Continue reading

The Birth of the IdealShape Successful Weight Loss Program

Hi, I am David Meine the creator of the Ideal Shape Audio Brain Food CD series. My personal health and fitness have always been very important to me. 26 years ago I was give a cassette tape that allowed me to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. I didn’t realize until 18 years later the power of that experience. That realization came while talking to my Foster Dad Tom Nightingale. One evening while watching the sun set on his back porch, he told Carla and me that he had lost and gained over a thousand pounds over his lifetime. While he was telling me this, in my mind I said “OH MY GOSH” could the secret that I learned 18 … Continue reading

What’s Really In Your Weight Loss Shake?

Protein shakes for weight loss… we know them by different names but drink them for the same reasons — to replace a meal or snack; boost our protein intake, especially in conjunction with a workout; and promote our weight loss efforts with protein, fiber, and vitamins and minerals. While we may guzzle them for universal reasons, not all shakes are created alike. Unfortunately, we have a tendency not to be very discerning… “In the grand scheme of things, most people choose their protein based on the effectiveness of the marketing, not the product itself,” writes Kevin Neeld on AskMen.com. Yes, I used to be one of those people. “That’s a pretty-colored label, and look — 10g protein and 24 vitamins … Continue reading

Are You At Risk For One of the 8+ Eating Disorders?

In one of my earlier posts I spoke about meal planning and using it to create success. Someone mentioned in passing that the lifestyle changes required might push someone into an eating disorder known as Orthorexia Nervosa, one of the 8+ eating disorders, 6 of which you have probably never heard of. Curious about this condition, I decided to read up on it and I found a great book called Health Food Junkies by Steven Bratman. I downloaded it onto my kindle and here’s what he had to say on the subject: “In fact, it is transferring too much of life’s meaning onto food that makes orthorexia an eating disorder. If you simply eat healthy food but don’t give it more … Continue reading

Meal Replacement Shakes for Weight Loss: Two Common Mistakes to Avoid

A Healthy Appetite Suppressant: Does It Exist?

To many of us, “appetite suppressant” sounds strange. Why would I want to go against my body if it’s telling me I’m hungry? And there have been oodles of unhealthy and untrustworthy diet products on the market. These have only added to our skepticism, and rightly so. But healthy appetite suppressants are possible. It’s simply a matter of tapping the power of foods that naturally fill you up. Add health- and energy-promoting nutrients, and you also get the sustenance your body needs. There’s nothing unnatural about that. So maybe we should look at these natural products not as appetite “suppressants,” but as appetite “satisfiers.” But how do they work, and how do I know it's healthy?
