The ‘How’s and ‘Why’s of Eating 5 Times a Day

Think about this.  When your children were babies how often did they eat?  Most babies I know eat every couple hours.  In fact, as a new mother it’s sometimes difficult to feed them that often but that’s when they were hungry.  As they started to grow, didn’t it seem like they were always eating?  Not big meals,  more like grazing.  Then doesn’t it seem reasonable that eating 5-6 times a day is natural? We actually had to be trained to go to 3 larger meals a day. There’s this big debate out there as to which is better for you if you’re trying to get healthier and lose weight.  Just eat 3 meals a day or eat smaller meals 5-6 … Continue reading

What’s in your meal replacement shake?

There's a lot of variety out there when it comes to meal replacement shakes and we're not just talking about the brands themselves. Everyone is trying to mark up the ingredients they use in a way that gets you excited to buy. But sometimes we get mixed signals... "Scientifically Formulated" are words we've come to recognize on every single shake out there because the alternative that jumps to mind (some random person mixing crushed vitamin A tablets with Ovaltine mix) just doesn't happen. Every shake out there is going to be formulated by scientists, but what about less obvious claims? There's a lot of funny trademarks when it comes to "huger-blockers" that are currently out on the market. Products touting … Continue reading

Cheat Days: “Everybody Needs to Cheat a Little to Prosper”

We believe (and there’s plenty of research out there to prove it) that when you are in calorie restriction, eating less calories than your body needs for regular daily functions, you need to have at least one day a week where you increase your daily calorie intake by 300-500 calories.   Doing this allows your body to maintain normal levels of  the hormone Leptin. Leptin plays a major role in regulating energy intake and expenditure.

Just Weighting Around for the Holidays to End

So, I was very excited today to find that I have been successful with my goal of not gaining a single pound this holiday season! My typical weight gain during this time of year (from Thanksgiving to Christmas) is about 7-10 pounds. This means that I’m right in line with the average American, and I’ve been gaining this inhaled holiday heft for over 30 years. When New Years rolls around, I once again have to make my resolution to work for months just to get rid of it. This year it was time for a change. I was determined to still enjoy the holidays, but I wasn’t going to overeat and put on any pounds. I had two Thanksgiving dinners … Continue reading

The Birth of the IdealShape Successful Weight Loss Program

Hi, I am David Meine the creator of the Ideal Shape Audio Brain Food CD series. My personal health and fitness have always been very important to me. 26 years ago I was give a cassette tape that allowed me to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. I didn’t realize until 18 years later the power of that experience. That realization came while talking to my Foster Dad Tom Nightingale. One evening while watching the sun set on his back porch, he told Carla and me that he had lost and gained over a thousand pounds over his lifetime. While he was telling me this, in my mind I said “OH MY GOSH” could the secret that I learned 18 … Continue reading

The Myths About Traditional Weight Loss and Diet Programs Part 1

Since I was a wrestler in High School I have almost always been on a diet. I remember those days of trying to get my 5’11” frame down to 145 pounds. I would wear a plastic sweat suit, only eat hard boiled eggs, and spit a whole lot. I practically did anything that would get my weight to 145 pounds for weight ins on Friday night before my wrestling match. During my senior year our team was half way through the wrestling season and some bizarre events transpired. Before the Christmas break I had beat the previous year’s state champ. I went into the two week Christmas vacation believing I would be the state wrestling champion at 145 pounds. I … Continue reading

People are Divine – They are not their Behavior when it comes to Weight Loss

Over the last year I have become a Certified Hypnotherapy and Weight Loss Specialist. As I work with clients I am amazed at the many different behaviors that individuals struggle with in creating their ideal shapes. Over the last 30 years I have observed successful people in many different areas of life. Whether it is business persons, medical field, sports, religious, contractors, real estate, technologies and the list goes on and on, the one thing they all have is a positive mind set. This mind set is what drew me to weight loss hypnotherapy. With the United States struggling with an unprecedented number of obese and overweight individuals, I believe that IdealShape has figured out how to change this dilemma. … Continue reading

A Healthy Appetite Suppressant: Does It Exist?

To many of us, “appetite suppressant” sounds strange. Why would I want to go against my body if it’s telling me I’m hungry? And there have been oodles of unhealthy and untrustworthy diet products on the market. These have only added to our skepticism, and rightly so. But healthy appetite suppressants are possible. It’s simply a matter of tapping the power of foods that naturally fill you up. Add health- and energy-promoting nutrients, and you also get the sustenance your body needs. There’s nothing unnatural about that. So maybe we should look at these natural products not as appetite “suppressants,” but as appetite “satisfiers.” But how do they work, and how do I know it's healthy?
