Weight Loss Motivation

You look at yourself in the mirror and hate what you see. You wish you looked completely different. You tell yourself you are starting a diet tomorrow and that you are not going to eat anything that will mess the diet up. No more desserts, chips, or pizza. You are only going to eat lean meat, fruits, and vegetables until you can get your weight down and finally love the body that you see in the mirror.

You start out doing really well. You are keeping track of your calories and eating under your allotted amount. You are working out and feeling good. But then, two weeks into the diet you find yourself slipping up and eating those foods that you swore off. Then you get mad at yourself and just give up altogether only to start the same thing over again a month or two later.

This is what I like to call the all too common dieters tale.

So how can it be overcome? How can we break this vicious cycle?

Instead of starting out diets with feelings of negativity and hatred for our body we need to make healthy lifestyle changes that are fueled by positive motivation. When our weight loss motivation is positive we feel love for our bodies and when we feel love for our bodies we increase our healthy decisions because we want the best for ourselves.  When we increase our healthy behaviors we receive the rewards that we are looking for. We have more energy, more confidence, and more motivation to continue making healthy choices. When you continue making healthy choices you will get the results that you have always wanted.

So next time you start making healthy alterations in your life, instead of doing it to change your “ugly body” that you hate so much, do it because you love yourself and your body and you want to live the healthiest and happiest life that you can!

Good question at all. :) I have a picture of myself on the fridge from when I was thinner a few years ago. That makes me realize that I can get to that point because I have been there before. I ask myself if I really need those cookies and remind myself that I don’t need the junk food more than I want to be in a size 7. Its all a mind game, once you take a few minutes to think about things before you eat them, you will realize that you really don’t need to eat the garbage. Thanks!!!

I’m personally just fed up with being fat. I’ve been big my entire life, and I just don’t want to be big any longer.

I also want to be able to keep up with my future kids and grandkids.

      Patrick,
I agree. I always worry about being unhealthy for my future family. It’s a great, positive way to keep yourself motivated. Thanks for sharing!

I just had my “aah- hah” moment with this. Thank you! I have been doing this the “negative” way and things end up exactly as described. But from now on, I’m changing my outlook and motivation towards the positive. This is just what I needed!

      Kim,
You aren’t the only one who has been doing it the negative way. That’s what most people do and that’s why so many people don’t see success. Thanks for your comment!

This is the sum of it! If we love and repect our bodies, we’ll find the willpower. We’ll see success. So how do we do this after so many years of taking our bodies for granted? How do we reprogram the mind?

    • Angie says

That’s the key. Reprogramming the mind is a really hard thing to do. One thing we have learned to use is the brain training cds. There is one called “overcoming sabotage” that is very helpful in helping people who have had the negative mindset for so long.

Positive Attitude, when you nourish your body with good food/good nutrition you feel better and have more energy to workout and do things! Ideal Shape Shakes do exactly that good nutrition/give you energy and with anything in life positive attitude you can achieve anything you set your mind to do. Take it one day at a time/ 1 lb. at a time and before you know it you will feel better about yourself and shopping for smaller sizes!

    • Angie says

      Donna,
That is exactly right! You have to take it a step at a time instead of looking at the whole journey because sometimes that can get a little overwhelming and it is important to stay positive.
      Thanks for the comment!

This article brought me back to the basic mind set, “Have a Positive Attitude” and I gratefully thank you for that!

When I first started my quest 4 years ago, I weighted 331 #’s and lost 131 #’s over 2 ½ year period and since then I gained 50 #’s back, struggling to get it off for all the wrong reasons. I got angry at myself and used a Negative Attitude and got nowhere, up and down cycle. I guess you can say I got cocky thinking it would be easy to lose the weight because I achieved a major goal in my life prior. But the interesting part is when I look back on how I achieved my life changing goal in the first place, I was POSITIVE and had FUN throughout the whole time.

Thank you for starting the fire under my butt again, here’s to a POSITIVE outlook!

      Andrew,
We’re glad we got you motivated again! A positive attitude really does make all the difference. Keep us updated on your success!
