Workouts Dwindling? Turn Up the Volume!

Do you accelerate your treadmill stride when Katy Perry comes on? Need The Killers to amp up for your daily jog around the block? There’s no denying that rocking out to the right music can get us into “workout mode.” And it turns out there’s actually a science behind upbeat tunes and our upped energy level. Says Core Performance’s Evan Gray, “British researchers found that runners who listened to songs with 120 or more beats per minute (BPM) boosted their running capacity by up to 15 percent.” We just can’t resist getting in synch with our favorite fast-paced tunes. So if your workouts are lagging lately, sounds like it’s time to load up your iPod with some rowdy songs and start working up a sweat! The best part: no one knows what’s in those ear buds. Squats and lunges to the latest Britney Spears album will be your little secret. (Unless you accidentally sing along.) Still putting your workout playlist together? I have to agree – the right music really keeps me pushing through my workout. Lady Gaga, Beyonce and David Guetta are all in my playlist right now. Post your music ideas! I’m always looking for something new.

My must haves on my workout playlist are Justin Timberlake, Higher Ground by the Chili Peppers, Kanye West, and The Black Eyed Peas. Music definitely motivates me to move my body.

I definitely second the Black Eyed Peas – they’re always in my workout mix. Same with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. And I’m not ashamed to admit I’ll rock out to Britney Spears during my runs. :)
