Biotin or Collagen: Which should I take?

There are lots of benefits to both biotin and collagen, but I want to help you take the right supplements for your needs.

My clients are always asking me which supplements are best for their hair, skin, nails, and teeth while they’re on their weight loss journey. We want our bodies to be healthy and strong (and gorgeous), so we’ve got to eat healthy and take the right supplements!

Biotin and collagen are the two supplements that most people choose between when trying to strengthen their hair, skin, and nails. People always ask the difference between the two, so let’s dive in with the ins and outs of biotin and collagen!

Benefits of Biotin

Lots of people take biotin supplements when they want their hair to grow. That’s because a deficiency of biotin in your body can cause hair loss. Oh no!

Biotin can also help improve the health of your skin. If you don’t have the right amount of biotin in your diet, toxins start to pop out on your skin (usually in the form of rashes or acne).

biotin

It is possible that biotin can help you regulate your blood sugar and cholesterol levels. I know, you’re thinking, “Where can I get this miracle pill??”

The beautiful thing about biotin is that you can find biotin in foods you are already eating! Say what?? Yes! You don’t actually need to take a supplement to get the right amount of biotin in your diet.

Here’s a list of some foods that already contain biotin:

  • Egg yolk
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Salmon
  • Dairy
  • Avocado
  • Sweet potato
  • Cauliflower

Keep filling your diet with foods like this and you’ll get the benefits of biotin!

Benefits of Collagen

collagen

Collagen is actually a protein–it makes up a portion of the proteins in your body.  We should definitely be taking care of the collagen we’ve got and replenishing as necessary.

Our skin is about 75% collagen, which is why so many people take collagen supplements or have collagen injections. The collagen helps bind your skin together, making it more elastic and tight.

Collagen can help you with your:

  • skin
  • hair
  • nails
  • joints
  • teeth
  • gums
  • cellulite
  • digestion
  • metabolism
  • hormones
  • and sleep.

With a list like that, it’s clear that you should be supplementing your body with collagen. Especially since your body’s collagen production decreases with age!

You can find sources of collagen in gelatin because gelatin is just the cooked form of collagen. However, gelatin is not the best source of collagen for supplementing your diet.

Hydrolyzed collagen, or the collagen that is easiest for your body to absorb, isn’t found in food that you can eat–which means you’ll need a different way to best supplement your collagen production.

IdealCollagen

If it’s between using a biotin supplement and a collagen supplement, I totally suggest trying out collagen. Biotin can be found in foods you can add to your diet, while hydrolyzed collagen cannot be consumed in a food!

I recommend IdealCollagen to all of my clients who are trying to lose weight. IdealCollagen is made up of hydrolyzed collagen, which means the collagen is broken down into the smallest pieces possible so that your body can absorb the collagen more efficiently.

IdealCollagen is especially important for your skin while losing weight. If you lose a large amount of weight in a short amount of time, your skin may not have the ability to bounce back, and you’ll end up with a lot of extra skin hanging around.

Collagen helps your skin be more elastic and tight, which helps people look great while losing weight. If you supplement your diet with collagen, your skin will be more able to bounce back after your awesome weight loss journey!

Let’s Supplement!

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your hair, skin, or nails, IdealCollagen is the way to go. If you’re deciding between biotin and collagen, remember that you can get the full benefits of biotin through foods, but you can only get the full benefits of hydrolyzed collagen in IdealCollagen.

If you have any questions about collagen, supplements, or how to go about your weight loss journey, let me know in the comments! My team and I will be happy to help you on your way.
