Eat This, Not That: Snacks for Weight Loss

Eat this, not that! Sometimes, I think I need a little voice in my head telling me which snacks to choose and which snacks to not choose.

If you’re following the IdealPlan or my 15 Day IdealShape for Life Challenge, you know that eating about 5 small meals every day can help you lose weight.

Eating 5 small meals every day means you get to eat some snacks! In the meal plans I provide, I help you learn to “eat this, not that!”

In the media, we see snacks like potato chips, granola bars, juices, and cookies. The snack options are endless! Usually, people snack on high calorie, high sugar, or high fat snacks made up of simple carbs that don’t keep you feeling full and satisfied.

Snacks have the ability to ruin your weight loss progress. I want to help you crush your goals, so we’re going to dive into “Eat This, Not That,” and learn more about the snacks we choose!

Potato Chips VS IdealChips

Potato chips are super addicting–we all know that! That’s because they are covered in oil, grease, and salt. Sure, potato chips can taste great in the moment, but ultimately they don’t do much good for you.

Instead of grabbing a bag of salty chips, reach for a bag of IdealChips! IdealChips are baked (never fried) and have only 120 calories. Packed with 10 grams of protein, IdealChips are a great addition to your meal plan because they will keep you full for longer than regular chips.

Candy VS Frozen Berries or Frozen Grapes

Sweet temptations are everywhere! I like to leave a bowl of candy out for my kiddos, but sometimes it’s really hard to resist the temptation to grab a handful of candy. Most kinds of candy are full of sugar and calories, and that doesn’t fit into my meal plan!

To curb my candy cravings, I have to prepare in advance. I purchase frozen berries to keep in the freezer. Berries have a delicious tangy taste, and the natural sugars keep me away from candy!

I also like to freeze fresh grapes, they taste so creamy right from the freezer!

Granola Bar VS IdealBar

Alright, this one is tricky. Most people consider granola bars to be a pretty healthy snack. Sometimes, granola bars are great! But you might be eating way more sugar, carbs, and calories than you expected. Take a look at the nutrition label before you buy granola bars and make sure they fit into your calories!

I like to skip granola bars altogether and go straight for my IdealBars. IdealBars are one of my favorite weight loss snacks! The calories fit right into my meal plan, and the advanced hunger blocker is hard to beat.

Buttered Popcorn VS Air Popped Popcorn

Mmmmm, popcorn! The yummiest movie time treat that also packs a lot of fat. All of that butter and salt that tops popcorn makes it not the healthiest snack around. Even microwave popcorn can be a little much for a weight loss meal plan.

Air popped popcorn is so much healthier for you! All you need is an air popper, corn kernels, and a big bowl. You can control your portion sizes so much easier with air popped popcorn, but most importantly you can control the toppings!

Instead of popcorn drenched in butter and salt, you can use a light dusting of salt and any other fun spices to make a delicious, low calorie snack!

Soda VS IdealBoost

Soda: the bubbly, sugary drink that tempts so many on their weight loss journey. Drinking soda (or high calorie juices) won’t help you on your weight loss journey. Water is a much better option if you want to lose weight, but sometimes it’s boring drinking straight water all day!
