Finding Your Ideal Workout Routine

workout routineHave you fallen off the workout boat and found yourself unmotivated to get back on? It can be difficult to stick to a workout routine that feels like a chore every time you put on your gym shoes.

Today I’m going to let you in on a little secret, working out does not have to seem like a chore and it can actually be quite enjoyable. We all fall into a workout rut from time to time and may not be seeing the results we would like. However it does not have to be that way for long if you do not allow it to be.

So before you swim away from the boat forever, give this little trick a try in order to start enjoying your workouts again and seeing the results you want. Here I am going to go over five exercise program options from individuals in our MyIdeal campaign that may be just the ticket you need in order to do just that.

Hiking

During the summer time it can be hard to stay cooped up inside all day and then have to go to the gym. This is especially true if you enjoy getting out and soaking in some sun. Hiking is a great way to get outdoors, clear your mind and get some exercise while doing so. Hiking can also be as easy or difficult as you want to make it depending on the trails in the area you are at.

Hiking and other outdoor activities are what Davis Smith and our friends from Cotopaxi enjoy doing in order to get in their physical activity. If you also enjoy being outdoors try adding hiking into your fitness routine.

Dance

For some, dancing may be a great way to get in a workout without it even feeling like exercise. If you enjoy dancing as much as McKenzie Jones, this may be the key you are looking for in your pursuit toward a healthier you. Dancing burns a ton of calories and works muscles throughout your entire body.

If you think dancing might be right for you, try signing up for some dance classes at your local dance studio. It never hurts to get out there and give something new a try.

CrossFit

CrossFit is among the more intense activities on our list but it can be a great way to stay motivated and get in shape. Most CrossFit gyms are full of accepting people that will make you feel right at home. In most cases if you don’t know how to do a movement in the workout for the day, all you have to do is ask and a trainer will be there to show you what to do.

We have a number of CrossFit athletes that have participated in our MyIdeal campaign including Nicole Carlin, power couple Joe and Tina Semanoff, and mother of six Darcie Warren. If you are looking for a community vibe that will keep you on track toward your goals, look up your local box and give CrossFit a try.

Triathlon Training

Triathlon training is a great way to build all around endurance and mental drive. It can also be a great activity to do with a training partner like MyIdeal athletes Ashley and Kristi with Sweat 4 Sweets. Their philosophy is to conquer the balance between exercise and eating what they love.

Triathlon training may also be a great choice for those who love to get outdoors and enjoy the warm weather. So grab your training partner and get out and get sweating!

Strength Training Program

Having a structured program to follow is a great way to stay on track toward reaching your ideal shape. This is exactly how IdealShape nutritionist Lindsey Mathews, a figure competitor and mother of three, has helped hundreds of people lose weight through her live bootcamp. Working with a trainer one-on-one or in a group setting can help you learn to perform strength training correctly, and the rewards include building lean muscle, getting strong, creating a toned figure, and burning fat more efficiently.

Lindsey’s bootcamp format was so successful that she brought the concept to IdealShape and helped us create the brand-new IdealShape Up Challenge program. It’s basically a free, online weight loss bootcamp with daily videos and nutrition tips. The Shape Up Challenge teaches people how to perform strength training on their own, at home, in 10-20 minutes a day, and you get added support and accountability by following along on the blog and Shape Up Challenge Facebook page. If you’re looking for something that you can conveniently fit into a busy day, a simple strength training program is a great option!
