Resolutions–we all set them, but the process of actually keeping them can get pretty messy.
Stage 1: New Year, New You
You have ALL the goals for the New Year. You’ve written them down and you’ve got a little plan to put them into place. You’re feelin’ dang good about yourself and so stoked to be healthier, on time, well rested, and financially stable. Look out, world, here you come.
Stage 2: Killin’ it
You’re two or three days in and absolutely KILLIN’ it in the goals department. You wake up in the morning and check yourself out in the mirror, praising yourself for being so flipping amazing.
Stage 3: Serious pride
One week in. You have done everything you said you were gonna do and you are telling everyone and anyone who will listen about your success. You are a winner–and everyone should know about it.
Stage 4: Realizing your goals were actually pretty difficult
Week 2 or 3 rolls around and you start realizing that waking up at 5am every day is kind of sucky and celery isn’t the most fun snack. Life is harrrrd.
Stage 5: Briefly giving up because resolutions are too hard
That’s it. You’re done. You were kidding about setting all of those way-too-hard goals. You were happy before those goals came into your life! Now life is just hard and terrible and you’re quitting.
Stage 6: Old Habits Die Hard
Ice cream. Cookies. Cake. Sleeping in. Whatever it is, you have jumped back in full swing–and you don’t even care.
Stage 7: Back on the horse
Wait! You do care! Those resolutions ARE going to make you happy–so you jump back on the horse and start feeling absolutely fantastic again. Hello, world, you’re BACK and better than ever.
Stage 8: You start seeing progress and feel basically amazing about yourself
Do a little dance because you’re doing it! You’re doing your New Year’s Resolutions with fire and passion, but this time it’s for you. Nobody else needs to hear about your crazy success because you are becoming truly happy on the inside. Buuuut you still share your happiness with the world, because the world needs more happiness!
Stage 9: Life goes on!
Life is all about the ups and the downs, the wins and the failures. Whether or not you stick to your New Year’s Resolution you can still make and keep short term goals. Improving our lives is always the ultimate end goal. What are your short term goals? Let’s hear them!
