If you ask around among your friends, and even within your own family, you will likely find several people who are taking statin, a class of lipid lowering medications.

In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that approximately twenty-eight percent of all American adults now take one of these drugs!

Unfortunately, many people who take these prescription statin drugs develop pain in their joints and muscles after several weeks of being on them.

Losing 10 pounds dramatically cuts the collection of fat in and around your liver. The accumulation of too much fat around the liver may cause fatty liver disease, a condition that puts you at a higher risk for blood sugar issues.

How would you like to take 40 pounds of pressure off your knees when you walk? It’s a no brainer, but this can reduce your risk of aches and soreness if you already have it, according to experts at John Hopkins University.

Every pound of body weight translates to about 4 pounds of force on your ankles, knees and hips when you’re walking, so 10 extra pounds on your frame means 40 more pounds of pressure on your joints. Crazy right?

Losing just 10 pounds can help your joints suffer less wear and tear. You’ll be able to move well and for longer with less pain!

#5 – Increase Your Lifespan

There’s a reason life insurance companies often want to know your weight. Lifespan is inversely correlated with how much you weigh. Healthy weight ranges are associated with longer life spans.

Dr. Gary Whitlock and a team of scientist at Oxford University analyzed the data from fifty-seven long-term studies and found that weighing a third more than your optimal weight can shorten your lifespan an average of three years!

Other evidence and studies found that severe obesity can shorten your lifespan by an average of ten years. Yikes. Weight does matter!

This one is pretty straight forward. Losing weight gives you a more positive body image which can make you feel better about sex too. Who doesn’t want that? 😉

In one study, people who lost an average of only 13 percent of their weight said they felt more attractive and weren’t as uncomfortable about letting their partners see them undressed as they were before they’d dropped the pounds.

As belly fat builds up around your liver and kidneys, these important organs will have an increasingly harder time detoxifying your body.

In fact, this is one of the primary reasons why people start to feel so much better when they lose just a little weight.

#8 –  Help you get a good night’s sleep

Having a rough time catching some Zs? Does your partner have to nudge you because you snore every night?

If you do snore at night, you may have a form of sleep apnea. This is when your wind passages get partially blocked while you sleep.

This can be a dangerous condition since you may not be getting enough oxygen!

Losing just 10 pounds can widen your windpipe, helping you sleep through the night and reduce your risk of developing sleep apnea. And when you sleep well, your levels of leptin (the hormone that signals when you’ve had enough to eat) rise. So, a good night’s sleep will help you in more ways than one!

Losing 10 pounds can drop your numbers by half a point on average, which is close to the effect from some diabetes medications.

In fact, according to Johns Hopkins researchers, losing just 5-10 percent of your body weight can slash your risk of developing diabetes by 58 percent.
