1. A Healthy Diet

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with coming up with healthy meals consistently. I’m not a great cook, and I don’t know how to properly and effectively use seasonings and create yummy, but healthy sauces. 2. Get Enough Sleep

Listen up all you night owls! Did you know one of the key issues to not losing weight is sleep deprivation? When you lose sleep or don’t get enough, it disrupts a complex and interwoven series of metabolic and hormonal processes.

What I recommend to ensure a good night’s sleep is to first stop eating 3 hours before bedtime. You want to make sure you don’t spend those precious hours in dreamy time having your body battling, trying to digest what you just ate 30 minutes before you turned those lights out!

In addition, make sure you have complete darkness. If you have lights on from your alarm clock, TV, or no shades on your windows that block light out, get yourself a comfy sleep mask.

One thing that always helps me sleep is to turn off my TV, my cell phone, and anything else that might be distracting about one hour before bedtime. Instead, I listen to some soothing meditation music.

Although many people like to read before they go to bed, I personally don’t think it is a good idea to read anything that is going to be too stimulating, thought provoking, or disturbing. However, if it works for you, and you don’t spend the night tossing and turning, then go for it!

In the evening, 1-2 hours after dinner, it’s a great idea to do some easy yoga, using deep breath work to calm your body and your mind, while working out all the kinks in those stiff muscles.

3. Reduce and Manage Stress

Too much stress can be a huge problem when it comes to weight loss. Stress signals the release of cortisol, a stress-related hormone. Too much cortisol can cause you to hold onto fat, especially in the belly area. Not fun!

One of my favorite ways to reduce stress and calm down is listening to the Tibetan Bowls. It helps me get into such a zen state! A CD I bought that I use every single day as part of my daily stress management practice is called “Liquid Bells Singing Bowls”.

I got mine on Amazon after I heard the artist, Damien Rose, perform with the bowls live at a retreat I went on in California. I was put into the most relaxing state of mind and haven’t been able to do without it since.

That, of course, brings me to the importance of meditation! Even if you start by doing 5 minutes per day, it really helps to harmonize your nervous system and relieve stress. Just sit somewhere quiet without any distractions, making sure you have back support, close your eyes, and follow your breath.

When thoughts come in, just let them drift by and come back to your breath. For some, it helps to repeat a mantra when exhaling like “Release” or “Relax”. Try it for a few weeks and notice the positive changes it produces.

4. Move Your Body!

When it comes to exercise and fitness, everyone is different.

Some people love running, others yoga, and some enjoy lifting heavy weights. Losing weight and getting fit is really about finding something you love to do and sticking with it.

Fitness should never feel like torture. If it does, you haven’t found something that’s best for you and your lifestyle.

I always advise people to start out slow and easy. Learn to enjoy the process and embrace your journey!

Everyone is at a different place, so don’t compare your beginning, middle, or end to anyone else’s. Love yourself in every moment and make small steps towards your goals. It all adds up!

For me personally, I enjoy the elliptical because it’s easy on my joints and it gets my heart pumping. Core work is a must too!
I love blasting my music and working up a good sweat.

Of course, it goes without saying that if you exercise consistently you will sleep better. It probably is the number one stress reducer! So get moving!
