Water You Waiting For? Health Benefits for Weight Loss

Lose Weight With H2O with Girl Drinking Water

Did you know that simple old water can actually help you lose weight?! That’s right: drinking enough water can help you reach your weight loss goals.

Unfortunately, many Americans don’t drink nearly enough water, usually because they don’t like the taste. That’s why we made IdealBoost. It’s a 5 calorie drink mix that not only gives your water delicious fruit flavor, it also provides you with energy-boosting ingredients like green tea, caffeine, and B vitamins.

Water Wonders

I think there are some very powerful reasons to drink lots of water every day, and forming the habit isn’t as hard as it may seem.

First, let’s remind ourselves of the amazing things water does to our bodies.

  • Weight Loss

Water is one of the best tools for weight loss. First of all, water often replaces high-calorie drinks like soda, juice and alcohol with a drink that doesn’t have any calories. Second, water is also a great appetite suppressant. Oftentimes when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually just thirsty.

Water has no fat, no calories, no carbs, no sugar. Drink plenty to help your weight-loss regimen!

  • Energy

Being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you feel tired — even mild dehydration.  If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated — and this can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and other symptoms.

  • Headache Cure

I know plenty of people who get headaches when they don’t drink their favorite soda.  Though they blame the headaches on soda, sometimes it is simply a result of dehydration. There are lots of other causes of headaches where water might help.

  • Healthy Skin

Goodbye, expensive acne treatments! Water can clear up your skin and provide a healthy glow. We’ve all seen skin treatments promising visible results after a few weeks, but drinking water can actually bring those results to fruition.

  • Digestive Care

Digestive issues and irregularities are common. Which is why we see so many probiotic yogurts advertised. But, we may just not be drinking enough water. Our digestive systems need a good amount of water to digest food properly. Often water can help cure stomach acid problems, and water along with fiber can cure constipation (often a result of dehydration).

  • Improve Exercise

Being dehydrated severely hampers your athletic activities, slowing you down and making it harder to perform at your peak. Exercise requires additional water, so be sure to hydrate before, during and after exercise.

How Do I Drink More Water?

If you’re not in the habit of drinking water regularly, it can be tough to form the habit. But with consistency, you can totally do it! I drink A LOT of water every day, thanks to the bottle that I carry with me everywhere.

Here are a few tips I used a couple years ago that helped me:

  • Set Your Goal

First figure out how much you need to be drinking. How much water are you currently drinking? No matter where you are, you can probably drink more. If weight loss is your end goal, I recommend anywhere from 12-16 cups (one cup = 8oz) of water per day. Don’t feel like you need drink that amount right away, ease into it. Eventually it will become second nature!

  • Turn It Into a Game

Are you a soda drinker? Try this. When you first start drinking more water decide that you can’t have your first soda of the day until you have had 3-4 cups of water. Later, bump that up to 5-7, and so on. The goal is to get to the point where you don’t even want soda anymore.

  • Keep Water Handy At All Times

My water bottle holds 25 oz, and I try to keep it full of water at all times.  If it’s right there next to you, you’re are more likely to drink it than if you have to go get it from the kitchen or your car.

  • Set Little Reminders

Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to drink.  Try to drink when you first get up, before you eat a meal, after you eat a meal, and especially during exercise.

  • Flavor It Up!

Do what I do and keep a packet of IdealBoost handy when you need a little incentive to keep guzzling that water. It tastes just as delicious as soda, but it only has 5 calories.
