“I always had trouble with being overweight when I was growing up. I heard the names and noticed the glances from my peers, but I didn’t know what to do because I didn’t believe I could change it.”
At the end of his freshman year in high school his father was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. When his dad changed up his diet and began to lose weight, Justin joined him. They lost weight together and over the next four years they were able to maintain it. He felt like a new person.
Nevertheless, a major life event turned Justin’s world upside down.
“It was right after my freshman year in college; my mom lost her courageous battle against ovarian cancer. I had spent the month leading to her passing by her side, and I was looking for a job. A week after she passed I got 2 job offers and took them both. Working 60-70 hours a week helped keep my mind off of things, and my father and my sister and I drew closer together. I completely disregarded my diet and ate food to comfort me”
Over the next five years he slowly gained the weight back and then surpassed it for a new high.

In April of 2012 he decided to live healthier again. Before, he had only watched portion sizes, but this time he got a membership to the local gym. He started lifting weights and incorporating softball, basketball, and volleyball into his healthy lifestyle.
“I vowed to make my mom proud of me and realized that I could do that by just being the best me I could be. I had a plan and was ready to execute. However, my biggest hurdle was what to eat for lunch. The meal replacement shakes were a missing piece to the puzzle. This new plan seems to be working awesome for Justin. He has dropped 100 pounds in the last 9 months and is living a lot healthier.
